about

Before establishing John Flanagan Law LLC, I practiced law for over 30 years, primarily in the area of commercial litigation. In establishing this firm, my goal is to use the knowledge and experience gained in advising clients and litigating commercials matters (both large and small) to assist clients in resolving disputes efficiently, yet aggressively, at reasonable and competitive rates. I also offer my services as a mediator or as arbitrator for alternative dispute resolution matters. If I am retained to act as a mediator or as an arbitrator, I will use those same experiences from my career to help resolve disputes between parties, consistent with the goals of those ADR processes.

Over the course of my 30 year plus legal career, I have worked at two smaller firms and at a large firm. During this time,I have worked on many different matters and cases involving contracts, section 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code, various business torts, the Wisconsin Fair Dealership Law, the antitrust laws including the Robinson Patman Act, trade association activities, insurance coverage, false advertising, trademarks, trade secrets, intellectual property valuation, damages assessments, and access issues under the Wisconsin the telecommunication laws, among others. I have been recognized in the past by the Super Lawyer magazine and most recently by The Best Lawyers in America publication. I, like many my colleagues in the Bar, believe that lawyers need to be active in their communities. In this regard, I have served as president of the board of directors for three non-profit civic organizations—the Benedict Center Inc., the Skylight Music Theatre Inc., and the Wisconsin Equal Justice Fund Inc.

Immediately after graduating from law school, I clerked for the Honorable John L. Coffey, then a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, located in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to law school, I was employed as an accountant at Arthur Andersen & Co., a large national accounting firm at the time.

I graduated summa cum laude with a J.D. degree from Marquette University Law School and graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree with an emphasis in accounting from Marquette University.
